Help figuring build date on 1928? Roadster
I have a car that was built into a hot rod a long time ago. I hope that no one really minds this being posted here.
I am trying to trace the history on the car. In doing this I think it might be beneficial to know approximately the original build time frame. The only part I am trying to trace is the actual body, all else could have been and likely was changed. The subrail stamping is TC 1746 There seems to be no signs of a rear body mounted taillight. The cowl sides are short flanged. The firewall has indented edges. There is a cover over the left hand brake hole. There is no number that I can see on the front face of the gas tank. I do not trust that the doors are original. One seems more possible then the other though and it has no outside door handle. The frame has been changed and it is stamped with a January 1929 number which I believe to be incorrect to the body. Thank you all for any help what so ever. Zach

Looks like mid to late 28 body assembled in the Twin Cities. It has the same features as my 9-27-28 Phaeton TC476.
Is the choke rod bracket mounted mid tank on the bottom, or close to the rear edge? Mine is mid tank and has the short rod with tear drop handle. |

If the date is stamped into the firewall, it should be on the left side, approximately in the area by the horn and decal. May be stamped lightly, and you may need to clean the area to see them.

Nice old skool rod. My next project will be similar but with a flathead. |

Re: Help figuring build date on 1928? Roadster
Thank you Tom!
The choke bracket is missing but I will check where it was. I believe it is near the back edge toward the seat. C26 - I am trying to find photos of the car when it was originally built into a hot rod. I'd like to try to piece together its time line. Stew, I have another tank that is stamped, I am pretty sure this one is missing it. But I don't want to dig into the old paint to look any deeper as the whole car has a nice general aging to it. I believe it ran on the dry lakes in southern California but for sure was in that area in the 40's. I found some Los Angelas Feb 1946 newspaper in the body. Could a body assembled in Twin Cities (TC) have sold in California? Thanks Zach

Re: Help figuring build date on 1928? Roadster
Probably not...BUT the original car from the TC plant could have been driven to California after it was bought and there it staid!

Hot Rods are fine as many old barn finds all one could do is Rod the remains. Rods are their own art form, and I like the looks of yours.

After 5 years, does he still own it? Why dredge up old posts to compliment a car? Send him a PM
