Default YOM License Plate Frame

Getting ready to register Ruby the truck and was double checking fit on my ‘39 NM plate. Of course when I ordered a new frame I forgot that these old plates are not the same size as current plates.

In conversations with a CNC fabricator, but wondering if there is a more affordable route. The measurements are approximately 13 3/8 x 6 1/8.

Thanks.

If you find a source, put me down for two. This would seem like a great idea for the EFV8 foundation to add to their inventory. 12 1/2 x 5 3/8

Gee, the plate looks fine without a frame.

Thanks, I agree it looks good without a frame. I want one so I can put a plastic cover over it for a little more protection.

A couple of years ago, there was an outfit that made an ajustible (sp) frame. I saw it on the internet, but don't their name.

I went through the same thing, could not find a plate frame 121/2 x 61/2 with holes to line up so I used this plastic trim, works for me.

You could make your own out of Lexan. We used to make them in our metal shop class using a plastic strip heater. All you have to do is heat the plastic and make a single lap joint on top and bottom. Then slide it over the license plate. Then put a dab of silicone caulk at end of each lap joint to hold Lexan in place.

Use Lexan plastic as it is more durable and more sun resistant than plexiglass.
Here's an example of other items we used to make these frames for. This poster measures 12 x 14. Most shops that make plastic items or sell plastics could make you a plate cover while you wait. Very easy to do.

What's neat about is that it looks invisible and there's no "frame" to hide the poster.

Kevin, Search "adjustable license plate frame" on eBay. There's a number of them for sale that will work fine for your particular needs. Plus, many appear to be era correct.

Don't know about New Mexico but in California plastic covers are illegal. Is it enforced? Not all that much but it can and has resulted in tickets, either fix it or pay the fine ones.
