Repairs to top iron nailing material
I believe the original nailing material inside of the top irons of a 1928/29 Model A roadster was leather. I have a set of irons where this material is rotted or missing.
What have folks done to repair or replace this material. Thx all, I would appreciate any info on this. |

Re: Repairs to top iron nailing material
It was a twisted “heavy paper like “ material
I have replaced it with multiple strips of waterproof upholstery board Cut and glued together as put in layers Sorta laminated on each strip |

Re: Repairs to top iron nailing material
Yup same here. Although some of the folks here have used leather belts claiming it works well. Auto upholstery shops have flexible plastic tack strip that comes in a roll.

Re: Repairs to top iron nailing material
We use thin strips of wood that are steamed first and laminated in position using water-soluble wood glue.
