31 Roadster pickup cab swap to Truck cab
I'm getting a 31 Roadster pickup and would like to to swap it's cab for a Pickup cab due to my wanting to use it during New England's various weather conditions. (NOT during winter salting). While the Roadster Pickup may be cool, it''s also too open to the rain we could get here in Connecticut. I'll only do this if it doesn't end up destroying the Roadster.
Any help would be much appreciated. Chet Voluntown, Ct. |

Re: 31 Roadster pickup cab swap to Truck cab
an easy swap- but consider just buying the pickup cab you want, unless you are getting an incredible deal.
otherwise, sell off the rpu and then again, buy what you want. RPU has a bit higher value then a normal closed cab. |

Re: 31 Roadster pickup cab swap to Truck cab
I went the other way. I took my '29CCPU, sold the cab (less the gas tank) and built a '29RPU. It's was an easy swap as soon as I had the Open Cab built.
Finding a Closed Cab body might be an issue, may take some time to secure one and you might have to buy a AA truck to get one. Lots of heavy iron left over...... If you do the swap keep the Roadster Cab. Someday you may find you want it back to an open cab. |

This is interesting -- I've a '31 with the Budd Cab, live in Florida. Tempting tho. Surely you'll find a Budd closer?

I may know of a '31 CC P/U body and doors for sale. The body I know has been painted Vermilion Red, but not sure about the doors. I'm sure the gas tank has not been painted. Is this something you are interested in?

Re: 31 Roadster pickup cab swap to Truck cab
Thanks for all the reply's. Which model / year series cabs will work for this as close to a bolt on swap? Given what I do know about the Model A and Henry Ford, which would fill half of a small frog's brain, it's got to be consistent with one chassis and multiple models assembly line logic. Or not.

Chet, you will be able to enjoy the Open cab this summer. Who knows you may find it quite acceptable, just by putting the side curtains on.

I would buy some side curtains and keep the roadster cab. Do you realize how rare they are? I spent several years looking for one, of course in Southern California we don't have your weather problems.

Re: 31 Roadster pickup cab swap to Truck cab
I've seen enough comments alluding to how rare these RPU's are to back off my quest for a closed cab swap. That rarity and the fact that this RPU was my friend's Dad's project that I'd like to keep intact in deference to his memory is more than enough input.
Thanks to all whose contribution either got me there or helped with the technicality's of that prospect. Chet |
