Default 1928 excess rear taillight wiring...

Just how did FORD originally deal with the excess rear taillight wiring after the harness was attached to the rear taillight?

I have some good slack in the wiring on my February 1929 Tudor with drum tailiight.

Was it just left hanging there or "coiled and taped" as seen with Fig 860 in the March 1930 FORD Service Bulletin?

The length of the wiring is the correct distance for this time period harnes.

Thanks.

Where did you buy the rear light harness?
Is it the correct one piece harness, as original?

I bought two for my 28 and early 29 from Sacramento Vintage Ford, but I haven't installed them yet.
I would think the original harness wouldn't have any excess wire.

Tom,

I had Mr. Tyree Harris build my light harnesses according to the original Ford drawings and measurements of each for the time period of February 1928 thru February 1929.

Uhh,....haven't looked, BUT,.. I would think the wiring would be longer for the
Tudor, Fordor and Phaeton.....so the excess for a Coupe / Roadster would be
a lot?!
You know what I'm saying..

Pluck can you pull the wire forward on to the frame rails and secure with one of the clips on the frame. I would believe that Henry and crew just tucked it up and away and if it fell so be it..

Sacramento Vintage Ford has the equipment/ machinery to manufacture original looking, fabric covered wiring with the original factory color coded identifiers.
I would think their stuff is spot on. Check their website to see this manufacturing process and the specialized equipment that they use.

Aren't all Model A's the same length so wouldn't the wiring harness be the same length regardless of body style?

Remember, the drum tail light "bracket" bolted too the body, not the fender.
Some brackets are quite short while others were long. Look in the JS book..

Dudley,

There is NO specificication on the drawings or the part releases indicating vehicle differences...this one fit all during this time period up to January/February 1929 with the early head lamp setup.

Yes, that will be no problem to do IF that is what FORD did originally.

Yes they do but when I ordered mine from them it did not match the original FORD drawings in some areas. I asked them to please send me a copy of the FORD drawing that they were going by to make the early harness but they declined to do so...go figure!

Yes...there was no other "substitute" drawing for this harness, A-14405-B on February 27, 1928, PR # 7446.

Yes, drawing date is February 27, 1928, PR# 7446...there was no other drawing till January 3, 1929 PR# 11550 when the new Two-light system became available.

So here is some more data on the February 27, 1928 PR# 7446 drawing of A-14405-B:

The total length of this "drawing", from one end to the other, is 127-1/2 inches;

From the begining (light switch) to the Junction where the wires go to the stoplight switch, is 42-1/2 inches.

From the junction to the end is 85 inches for a total length of 127-1/2 inches.

That sure seems long!
I just checked Bratton's length for the drum light extension, it's 25".
I also checked the Roadster here at work,...from the last body bolt hole to
the tail light (best guess, no tail light) it would be about 28"-30". It almost
sounds like you have enough wire to go too the tail light,...which isn't
correct, without the extension !?

Okay,..I thought about this,....the 127.5" would be from the farthest head light bucket
back. Also checked the 85" (best guess),..and it's just in front of the last body bolt.

The drum taillight should NOT have an extension.
SVF makes the correct harness in one piece from the light switch to the drum taillight.
