Default sediment bowl filter issue

Hi All,

I just tried to install a NAPA 3039 filter in the sediment bowl. Well the center hole would not fit around the fuel inlet so I had to widen it. When I finally got everything seated it leaked like a sieve. When I pulled it apart again the cork seemed good but the filter paper was crunched by the center fuel inlet and then it proceeded to come apart on me. And I did pull the mesh screen out. It is possible that the cork I used was for something else but just happened to fit. Either way I ordered some more just in case. What did I do wrong?
