Are originals that hard to come by? I often see them at swap meets.

Re: Best source for 28-29 radiator shell
I have removed and replaced two repro radiator shells on two separate '28/29 Model A's. I don't know where they came from as one was on a 16 year old restoration and the other was on the car at least 10 years.
At first glance they looked good, decent chrome finish but didn't really look like the Ford finish. A wrestling match to remove and install. And they were both made from cast chrome plated pot metal. My experience says to go with original if at all possible. |

Re: Best source for 28-29 radiator shell
I agree with the above, get an original and you know it will fit and look right. I have seen more than a few repro shells that their necks are too short and shows the radiator neck, the repro shells neck being to small and not fitting over the radiator neck and the hood not fitting correctly. Many repro shells are chrome plated, which I guess is OK, but Ford nickel plated 28/29 shells.

As far as I know, they all come from the same place in Taiwan. A lot of work to do up an original to look any good. Ask someone who has done it. |

Thats what I was afraid of. I will start with a call to Berts to ask about redone originals, they only have repros listed on their site.

I have never been to Bert's but I understand that visiting and perusing their used parts is a real treat. Their selection is quite vast.
Something else to add to my bucket list. And the staff there is first rate, it doesn't get any better than Bert's. |
