29 Tudor repro door hinge pins question
Back in the day when I first started working on A's the saying was that repro parts almost fit. I assume that is still true today.
I am getting ready to hang the door on the Tudor that I am working on and I noticed that the repro hinge pins are shorter than the originals by about 3/32 or more. See pictures. When I held the new pin up to the door hinge, it looks like it will barely go through the bottom section on the door. Plus the new (silver colored) pins have more of a bevel on the end which would give even less grab at the bottom section. See pix The old ones are not badly worn so I am inclined to reused them--any thoughts? |

If the rest of your hinge pins look like the one on the left in the photo, I would use them instead of the repros. Many times the pins have worn over the years, but that one looks fine to me.

I think that I will be going with the old ones. The knurled part at the top on the old ones is not as good as the new ones but I think that I can tweek them a bit!

Fred, If you need to tighten up the knurl, try using a small center punch, every 120 degrees around the diameter.
