'39 LZ transmission case- Any better?

I thought I remember reading something about how a '39 LZ trans case (Side shift with the wacky long stick) was stronger than a conventional "78-style" case.

Is this accurate?

It may also seem to help to get the shift handle to the side a bit to clear the steering wheel in an AV8.

Tim, the 38-39 LZ cases are no stronger than the regular Ford cases. The main advantage to them is their shorter throws on the shift movement, plus the location of the shifter lever positions it closer in towards the firewall. You’d have to adapt a Ford lever to fit onto the unique LZ shifter stub, but that would be doable.

Interested about the shorter throws. I would be putting 26 tooth LZ's in this case so that may be an advantage. Are there any known issues with the side shift mechanism that I should be looking out for?
