Farm truck wood bed sides

Hi Gents...
My 52 F1 is factory (or so it appears) drilled for the wooden "bed sides" The wood extensions that allowed folks to pile stuff (hay) higher than the steel sides. My guestion is did the wood go all the way to the floor? I assume it did and was hard wood with some sort of "clear coat". I want to somewhat duplicate this and need some advice, pictures. Thanks gene
