I used to enjoy it but last year tried my patience. The show is getting too big for the little town. We left mid afternoon going toward the main high way and traffic was backed up for miles trying to get into or through Dawsonville. I'll bet the locals hate to see it come.

The weather last year was perfect and the crowds really turned out.

Gene, I've got a conflict of events so unfortunately, I won't be able to attend the Moonshine Festival this year... Once that news get around, I'm sure the crowd will be much smaller... LOL

Well, just damn! Vic, I was all set to try again this year, but have had a total retinal detachment. Laser surgical repair, but temporarily blind in right eye, so travel and such on hold for several months.......maybe I should stop trying to plan and just allow life to happen? Regardless, the Lord does not give us more than we can handle, and this too, shall pass!

Marcus, I sure hope that everything turns out ok with your eye. I'm a bit disappointed that I'll miss the Shine Festival this year but... I'm looking forward to the next "Barner's Bash"... Maybe you and Margretha will be able to cruise down to Tampa for the "Bash"... Hope to see you soon.

Hey, don't get disheartened. You can save your vision if the retinal detachment is in the starting stage. Just go and see an eye specialist asap. There is no need to think twice about this, you have no other option. I'm sure about this because I had a similar situation in my life once- I got my retina detached and I consulted an eye specialist at a Lasik eye center in Auburn called Evergreen Eye Center. It was fortunate that I consulted him at the starting stage of the detachment and I was able to recover my eyesight. So I would advise you to go and see an eye specialist at the earliest and save your vision. Best of luck.

Thanks, guys: in fact, had already been through the laser surgery when I posted. Now have a gas bubble in the eye, with some limited vision. Doctor indicated that total vision should return as the bubble dissipates. We are so blessed to live in a time when these issues can be successfully addressed! Vic, Margretha and I agree: next 'Barner's Bash is right on top of the list!! And I hope the Piano Mansion was undamaged by all the recent rains (although I am sure your resident 'gator thoroughly enjoyed it)!!

Marcus, glad to hear that you will be seeing clearly once again. We were fortunate that both the house and garage emerged unscathed from the initial round of rains... However, one large Oak fell and did some damage to the garage septic system... We just had the tree cut down but, we'll have to get a large tractor/backhoe, etc. in, to remove the stump and root ball, before we can assess the damage to the septic... The fun just never ends...

But, the sun has been making a comeback, so I've taken advantage of that, to go topless...LOL

Marcus, I went through that about 18 yrs ago with my left eye. I detached twice and the Dr gave me no hope the second time but said he would do what he could. Turned out good and it is now the dominant eye. Modern medicine is great!

Vic - glad to hear the damage was not as serious as it could have been - and hopeful that removal of that rootball will NOT reveal addtItional damage. As I recall, had that tree come down the opposite direction, the famous Piano Playhouse (also referred as garage) might have been damaged - glad that it was not so!
Cecil - thanks for the words of encouragement: looking forward to Eastern Meet next year and another chance to visit......still think tinting the windows was the perfect "topper" to your EV8 PU!

I just went through cataract surgery on my left eye,(July 22) and I am almost sorry that I had it done. I can't see out of that eye now as well as I could before the surgery. Saw the doctor this morning and he says let's wait and take another look at it in 4 weeks. I sure hope it clears up. If not, I am going to leave the right eye alone. I don't want to wind up with the same in my right eye. I won't be able to oogle the womens like Clem does.
