Default Maybe a dumb question...

On the A side every month or so someone asks about how fast their model A should drive. This leads to lots of different opinions and comments. But I dont see that coming up here on the T side.

Dad said he bought a T for 20 bucks, and it would run about 20 mph, wide open. This was after WWII, before 1950, and in his words it was wore slap dab out!!

Without an overdrive, what would a strong running STOCK model T be capable of traveling in MPH ??

Thanks,
Let the bragging begin!

A stock T should be able to run 35 + comfortably all day long with spurts up over 40 mph.

I agree my sedan will go all day on the side roads. A couple times nearing 200 miles.

Just as in the Model A world, depends on what has been done to the engine. Biggest difference, only have at most the transmission brake and maybe 2 wheel brakes depending on how setup. Then too, those 2 brakes don't have a lot of road surface where the tire meets the pavement.
35-40 is comfortable for a stock T, on roads without a lot of hills.

My 1909 Model T with stock original engine has been clocked at 43 MPH, but that is pushing her a little. I do 35 to 40 on tours all the time.

I agree with all the above when the car has a fairly stock engine or stock type rebuild.
Those are comfortable and safe speeds for our cars.
