Default 36 Ford Sedan Door Latch Spring

The right-hand latch mechanism spring broke on my 36 Tudor. I'm pretty sure I have the "early 36" version, so I ordered a couple of replacement springs - YELLOW.
My question is how do you get these on? I think I have it oriented correctly. I looks like the "arm"needs to be rotated down, and the bend on the end makes contact with the latch to keep it pushed out.
I can't seem to be able to spin the spring around enough to get it in place. Is there some trick?
Help? Thanks!

There is a youtube video of a guy installing a new spring.

I have used a small jaw vise grip along with a flat blade screwdriver to lift up the hooked end.
