Default 1940 Ford Pickup reproduction parts.

First time post for me. I've enjoyed visiting this site and learning. Time to ask for thoughts and experience with some parts I will be ordering.

My project is a1940 Ford pickup, what are your thoughts on the following.

-Running boards, I have the choice of fiberglass, smooth steel, steel with
ribbing replicating original. I lean toward the steel with ribbing. Pricey but
I'm thinking that might be the best way.

-Rear fenders, they will be fiberglass. I am sure Wescott would be the best.
Anyone have experience with BeBop fiberglass fenders. I have seen their
glass bodies at Louisville street rod nationals and I am impressed with their
work.

Thank You

I'm sorry, but fiberglass fenders just don't cut the mustard. If you're willing to go for good steel running boards, then why devalue your truck with fiberglass fenders?

We have to remember that this person who is new to old Fords may be on a budget. If you haven't priced rear steel fenders for the 38-41 pickups that are in decent condition(if you can find them) you are in for a surprise. You would be amazed at the number of these pickups running fiberglass rear fenders due the scarcity. In addition not everyone has the talent to repair fenders that look like they were used as a battering ram.

One other thing to think about with regards to getting the vehicle out and about --- buy fiberglass now, finish and install -- start enjoying the vehicle, and keep searching for real steel.

38Bill, I appreciate you sharing your experience with BeBop. It is always good to hear from someone that has real world experience with a product.

I'm running Wescott fenders on my '40; very good quality and fit well. All four original fenders were too beat up to economically fix and since it's a two-many door I'm not really concerned about the value of it...
Just keep in mind that getting glass fenders ready for paint will take some work, they're not a bolt on.

On my 39 I did go with the ribbed steel running boards from Northern classic trucks, I do not think those are available any more.

And my Wescotts front and rear fenders DO cut the mustard, unless I tell the car show audience that they are fiberglass with out really looking you can't tell.

Fiberglass worked for me, especially being painted black. Have fun trying to locate good front and rears especially for a truck that will not need major work.

If it was an original restorable vehicle and willing to overpay to make it a concourse, try and find steel V.S. market value and getting something running with a Flathead...yeah fiberglass

My 41 Ford has Wescott rear glass fenders. They have been on the truck for 30 years . The fit and finish was good and after all these years they still look great.
