Best way to install the freeze plugs on oil pan rail
Found some 3/4 convex freeze plugs to install in the oil pan rail,mine were rusted out,a little permetex and hammer?????

Short answer- Yes. Clean out the ledge/groove real good and use your favorite sealant, Permatex aviation or silicone. Hitting them straight in will expand them in the groove and they will be sealed forever. You could consider painting the inside for additional protection from rust. That will extend the life from 85 years to 101 years. Stainless plugs will get you maybe 150 years.
Always replace these plugs when rebuilding an old engine. My opinion |

That black thick engine silicon is a favourite if the holes are a bit corroded....if rust has been reallly hard on it...tap for a pipeplug.
