Default Ceramic header coating

I recently had a set of flathead headers ceramic coated. The guy who does this as well as all types of powder caoting told me this coating has a degree of thermal insulating property, in other words it keeps some of the exhaust heat in the pipe. I was wondering if coating the exhaust runners in my next flathead would help keep some of the heat out of the cooling water? Rich

Rich, You do have a good idea, but you're not the first to have thunk it! Ceramic coating the exhaust chambers in flatmotor blocks is being done, but is expensive. Jet Hot, I seem to remember, charges about $450.

Ive put reds headers on two engines one 21 stud LB and a 59 AB neither gets to hot! As long as i keep moving. But then I'm in Seattle area.75% today 8-9-12.These headers get the exhaust out and away from the block.Use very little antifreeze down to about 10%.

Its really a simple process, the biggest job is prepping the exhault passages. A sandblaster would work just fine, then a solvent wash. After that fluff in the powder, roll it in the oven. Here in florida you could probably just leave it out on your driveway in the sun for a few hours Rich

They had ceramic coating on early b-25 exhaust sysems way back before ww-ii. The short stacks, as we called them were dark green and the exhaust pipes were only about six t eight inches long. When we returned from a mission, we could.t hear well for a day or two.
After much pressure they finally installed full exhaust collecter rings on the engines and additional upholstry that was extra thick. It helpes some, but they were still a noisey airlane
