Re: Master cylinder
Well...on the 49-50-51 Ford it was mounted on the inside car frame rail under the driver side floorpan. You had to pull up the floormat and pop out a round floorplug to gain access to the filler cap.
So if your car has the clutch and brake pedals that go down into the floor like them, it is under the floor, but if the clutch and brake pedal arms go up under the dash, it is in the engine compartment mounted on the firewall above the steering column. |

Re: Master cylinder
Thanks for the info..
I am looking at a 54 convertible, $2400. but want nothing to do with that old under the floor braking system.... My 56 Packard, thanks to Mr. Nance was still using the floor\rail system Bendix brakes... And without doing some major mod to the fire wall or removing the air intake duct from the engine compartment there is no place for a modern MC . Not sure I'm going to buy the 54, but wanted some heads up... I have a 292 out of a 64 truck, with 3sp. But the car also has floor rust... I keep saying I'm getting too old to start new projects... We had a 51 Ford custom when I was a kid, I loved that car, my brother got it when the parents bought a 62 Ford wagon, which is one of the cars I'm working on now and rust out passenger side floor pans are keeping it in the driveway.. Ok, thanks again guys. Best |

Re: Master cylinder
I did not watch all three videos to see if this was covered. When installing a newer master cylinder with only two bolts, be sure to run two bolts through the other two holes, as they hold on an important bracket on the inside that is very hard to see.
