Default 1931 USA made brake light switch issues.

Has anyone else eevr spent the extra money at $49.95 to buy the USA made stop light switch only to have it malfunction? I know it is the switch or I assume it is because everything works when I jump the two wires on the switch. It works at first but as the plunger comes out even more when brake pedal is fully depressed the lights go off.In other words the switch seems to have an off-on-off position. I am going to contact the supplier and see if they have had an issue with any of them.Doubt a return adjustment will be made after having it a year before installing with new harness. I may start looking for an Ampco or someother old NORS one that show up on Ebay.

The crossmember mounted switch is normally closed. These are pretty simple and can probably be fixed.

I know it is closed fine and at first pedal depression it opens and lights come on,then as more pedal more open no lights. Jumped across fine. Guess if Bratton's won't respond I will take apart not what I wanted to do,why I spent $50.00

Just a thought, but the one you bought can probably be repaired for a number of years, if need be, where as the off shore ones are just throw-a-ways. I have taken allot of the original items on the car apart and serviced them, then put them back in, and they perform perfectly.

When you do it, you will know how it works and it will be better than new. You get the satisfaction of a job well done, to your standards.

I believe A&L is the maker of that switch. I'd give them a call on Monday and see what they say. Probably just a fluke. They make very high quality products but there are only a couple people working there. I can see how something could slip through QC once in a while.

That is what I will do and hope they don't mind since I bought it from Bratton's but they have not got back to me. Order this weekend goes to Snyders.

If that switch has brass bushings it is most likely made by A & L Parts. They are a quality manufacturer and I believe they will make good on it. I have had these switches apart in the past and you will be surprised at how simple they are. Before you get into it try to contact A & L first. If that fails, they carefully open the tabs and look inside. You will be able to see why it doesn't work. Good luck with it, Ed

Here is the one from A&L which I assume Bratton's is selling as their high quality switch. Note the brass bushing at each end of the shaft. Does yours have these brass bushings, maybe they sent you the cheap one by mistake?

Yes A&L is a quality operation and that is a good switch that they offer, I have one in my car with no problems. As Charlie suggested verify that you in fact do have the good switch.

Before I'd do that, ordering another part, I'd take the one you have apart and check it out. Not a big job.

This is the first I ever heard of A&L's switches not working something is weird about this.
