Brake light switch

Has anyone used the mechanical switch in place of the pressure switch?Thanks in advance for your input.

Yes, the one I used was one of those with a spring loaded lever on it and normal closed. I attached it to the wood floor boards in my 40 so the lever would be on the top side of the brake pedal between the wood floor board and the pedal arm. In other words when the pedal arm goes down it allowed the arm on the switch to fall under its spring pressure and the pedal arm pulled it back up.

I did the same on my '39 and it works perfectly. It's pretty well protected too. I wouldn't use a hydraulic switch if it was free.

I use the lever one Speedway sells for $7 .Attached it to the frame as I have a 39 pedal assy in my 36 coupe.Works perfectly.

Thanks for the info .I'm going to go to Speedway in the morning and pick one up .Going to mount it under the floor .The pressure one I have now is about 2 years old ,didn't last long .

I use a NAPA SL-128. Think they were originally for early 50's Chevrolets.

I use the Harley style switch, change them at 5 years, run DOT 5, Joe you know most faucets don't last 5 years any more, average home furnace is only expected to last 12 years. For good ness sakes a new car is junk in 4 years. Problem is we are living too long, wear out more stuff, have to start eating more meat and smoking those big cigars. That's why stuff seems like it lasted longer in the old days, cause you had a grabber at 49 so you only lived in the house for 25 years, soon as you left everything sprung a leak.

So true Frank.I guess we are living to long .Speaking of living to long ,my mother -in-law is 85 and she ordered a 3 minute egg at the local cafe and they wanted her to pay for it in advance.

On my other 40 I am still using the hydraulic switch but I have a relay installed to take the load of the brake lights . With the relay,the switch is just making and breaking the ground ,been in there for 14 yrs.
