Since you're using the modern upper plate, try the ECH FA82 as Jim suggests.

Its a better condenser and away from the heat. Get 2 and bolt one to the coil but don't attach the pigtail - yet.

The cheaper condensers regardless of what they are for are pretty much junk. The guys on the later Ford forums have been complaining about them for quite some time.

If that doesn't then try another coil as Tom suggests.

I mounted a modern condenser and connected the pig tail wire to the switch side of the coil . This gets the condenser out of the heat and puts it in a place that is way easier to remove and replace .The condenser needs to be close to the points and this is plenty close enough . I've run my september 29 this way at least 14 years and don't even run a condenser in the distributor .
