Default tranny

Are there no variations on the transmission from 28-31?

I see no entries in the standards manual.

(To be clear - the transmission. ......not the tower or bell housing.)

There are several variations. The early transmission with the multi plate clutch has a different input shaft, as the clutch is mounted to the shaft, not the flywheel. It also has a different front bearing retainer. the early transmission cases used thrust washers, the later ones did not. The tops are different, as the left brake cars did not have provision for the brake handle. The later ones had the handle in front of the shift lever, the latests one had the handle on the side. The rear bearing retainer has the spacing of the holes for the bolts that hold the U joint housing together, the later ones had equal spacing.
There are probably other differences, but that is what comes to mind just now.

The SERVICE BULLETINS are an excellent source of information on changes during the 4 year run.

Tom, is there a place that reproduces the service bulletins? I have a friend that has a collection of literature including original service bulletins for Model A's as well as early V8. I cut my teeth on Model A's, however in the past 5-6 years I have been really focused on restoring the early V8 Fords.

Check with your nearest model A vendor to see if they have them in stock. They used to have then in 8 1/2 x 11 format but I'm not sure that is true any more, check with the vendor. There is always the yellow book (smaller print).

The national clubs had the Bulletins in a nice full size edition, which was much nicer than the small yellow book. Bratton's has the smaller yellow book for $36.30 on page 159 in my 2014 copy. They also have the larger paperback edition for only $16.50, and this one has Bratton's part number 37340.
