Throttle not returning to idle
Hi guys, my throttle doesn't return to idle (I have to nudge the pedal up a bit) and sometimes I have trouble going into gear while moving - thinking it's related). Haven't had a chance to dig into it yet - is the return spring adjustable? Is this a common problem? Thanks!

Re: Throttle not returning to idle
Needs to be oiled on top/both ends have an oil area. no on the return spring may have lost its spring?

Re: Throttle not returning to idle
Thanks Gary, I have definitely never oiled it - will check that thank you. It springs back just the last 1/4" or so it "sticks". Thanks again

Oil works wonders. Good luck.

Re: Throttle not returning to idle
Also check to make sure the spring is not broke, can be a pain to change but easy once you get the floor up.
I had the same problem, turned out to be a broken spring on the accelerator shaft.

check for floor board or mat interference hand throttle lever linkage issue and a worn throttle shaft will also cause it to hang a hair off the idle stop screw Last edited by Mitch//pa; 06-28-2015 at 08:42 PM. |

Re: Throttle not returning to idle
2tooth steering box, or 7tooth?
you may not be getting full travel because throttle lever is not getting full travel. Also, when the engine is pulled the throttle assembly gets bent. Bob |

According to internet slang, WAO means "Wow"

Re: Throttle not returning to idle
If you have a rubber seal nailed to the floor board that the linkage passes through it may be hanging up. It happened to me once after the car had been sitting for awhile.

Re: Throttle not returning to idle
check floor board, it can interfere with gas peddle returning...

Re: Throttle not returning to idle
Very new to A`s and was having a similar problem. Spent an hour trying to Mac Gyver a secondary return spring and found this thread. Oiled as described by Gary WA and works like it was meant to be. Thanks posters on the Barn, my go to place for the right fix every time.

Re: Throttle not returning to idle
I had the same problem. Oiled the linkage problem solved!! Now when I oil the distributor a couple of drops goes into the linkage. But the difference I do is I use the 600 weight oil. It doesn’t run out of it and make a mess. What do you folks think about using 600 weight oil?

Re: Throttle not returning to idle
Every throttle linkage I've seen has bent bent in some way. Double check ALL along the length of the linkage and watch how it rotates, there are only about 75 ways it can be bent!

Re: Throttle not returning to idle
I am attaching photos to show one of the two oil points that the other posters are referencing. It may be being missed since it doesn't look like a place to put oil unless you are looking for it.
