Default pressure oiling

I,m fitting up a pressure oiling setup for my A ,
I have the insert mains but babbit rods,
My question is will the rod dippers be ok when the main volume of oil is pumped into the main bearings,NOT into the valve chamber, gravity to the mains, then via the drain pipe into the oil dipper tray in the oilpan as original.
My setup will still get probhably 30 % oil into the valve chamber via my presure relief valve and a small feed from my new oil setup.the rest under pressure to the mains
My thoughts are that the same amount of oil will be coming from the oil pump, its just that most will go into the mains, and then get from there out into the oil pan tray any way.
My crank is NOT drilled for pressure to the Rods.

I have been running my 28 Sorts coupe that way for 10 years 17000 miles with no problems. It does have inserts in the rods. I think it will be just fine. The extra oil still should end up in the dipper tray. The only thing is you do not want to run your engine at real high RPMS, the oil can not get back to the tray fast enough.

The stock Model B was that way and seemed to do OK. You might think about running a high-volume pump and/or bypassing most of the oil by setting the relief to a quite low setting. The B had less than 1 psi when the oil was hot. With the crank not drilled, the mains won't require a lot of flow.

Thanks ,I will look at the displacement of the A pump and an early v8 one, that I should be able to machine to fit,
I also like the idea of running a lower oil presure ,I thought about 20 psi,
I have an oil presure test rig that I can hook up to the pressure oiling setup I make and see where the oil goes.
Thanks Lawrie

I've just had my Model A motor converted following Charlie Yapp's instructions in the "Vintage Speed & Sports Secrets" magazine using a 25lbs pressure relief valve as supplied by Scalded Dog.
The oil pump has been uprated too to Charlie's details.
The motor has been converted to shell bearings and has modern oil seals front and rear.
I have not had the crankshaft drilled and will be relying on the dippers for the big ends, but then I'm running a F150 3+1 gearbox and hope to keep revs down when cruising at relatively high speeds.
Time will tell!

Lawrie, e-mail me at [email protected] for an article on converting the V8 pump for use in the A or B engine. It takes some doing as the rotation must be reversed. This article was published in F.A.S.T. a while back.

I make Hi Volume oil pumps that fit right in your engine no modifiying the dipper tray, they pump 1-1/2 times the volume of a stock pump.
