Default Oil pressure

Drove to Duece days in Victoria BC, oil pressure good came home after dark oil pressure 0 on the gauge, made it home no noises, how do I check the sending unit? gauge?Oh ya 40 Merc

Try a mechanical to test. If mechanical is fine, then track it through electrical. A cheap mechanical can bought most anywhere and are fairly accurate.

You can check the gauge with a 1 1/2 v battery. There are check procedures in previous post. But, as Tinker posted, I would install a mech gauge to be sure what the engine oil pressure is first.

found the problem the sensor was bad, what a challenge to get it out, had to cut and weld up 2 wrenches to get that stupid thing out, grounded the sensor gauge went to high oil pressure, new sensor coming

Personally I like to put a mechanical on to test out the electric gauges anyway.

With no oil pressure, the engine will seize up in just a few minutes. How do I know??
