I was under the impression that all 30-31 pickups had spare tires mounted on the left(drivers) side. I just purchased a 31 pickup that has the spare on the right side. it has no place on the frame to mount a left side spare. Were the pickups sold with either option? This pickup came from a person who owned it since the 50s. It was last licensed in 1942. Numbers match on the title.

I've seen pictures of some with ladder racks on the left side and spare on the right.

Our US made '31 CCPU has no place for a spare, neither left fender , right fender, box mount or underneath.

Check the bracket that is attached to the frame, if it is riveted then it is a factory fitment .It then was most likely a customer special order to accomodate a ladder rack on the drIvers side .Another less likely explanation is that the truck was built RHD .

John in had a lovely day at The Henham Steam Rally with my 28 phaeton Maria (her body is from Uruguay) and my sons 31 coupe Penny ( from Nebraska) will go again tomorrow good warm weather forecast Suffolk County England.
