Grease fitting for E-brake cross shaft
Question: does it matter which push-in grease fitting I use on the outside of my 1929 frame? I got a bunch of new ones, but not sure which to use. Of course some are too large for the hole in the frame, so I picked a small one that points straight out.
Secondly, once the cross shaft is in place, does the grease just surroung the spring and fill up the brass bearing? Is plain old axle grease ok? Seems like it would make a mess inside the brackets. |

Re: Grease fitting for E-brake cross shaft
I cleaned mine up a little after I took the first picture and I see it's not quite a 90°, and its a hex type, been in there a long time as you can see but don't know if it's original. You might have a tough time getting to a straight fitting once the sheet metal is installed..
I added a second picture that hopefully shows it a little better....

Re: Grease fitting for E-brake cross shaft
The angle fitting is correct. The later shaft had no grease option.

Re: Grease fitting for E-brake cross shaft
Thanks for the explanation. Makes perfect sense. I have two of those in the kit I got.
I am still puzzled about where all the grease goes inside the frame. Last edited by walkerlakeprinter; 08-30-2018 at 07:14 PM. |

Re: Grease fitting for E-brake cross shaft
Anytime you add grease to a Model A it comes out some place. If you have the shaft and cups out, study them. I am not sure how you are thinking it goes inside the frame?

Re: Grease fitting for E-brake cross shaft
Should have a hole in the cup so the grease pass thru into the bearing. https://www.snydersantiqueauto.com/e...shaft-bushings
There are also felts that keep the grease in on the inboard side.

Re: Grease fitting for E-brake cross shaft
I got the E-brake cross shaft installed yesterday, and pumped in the grease. It oozed out all around the bearing, but I guess some got in through the hole. At least it seems to be working as it should. Thanks.
