Can i run this Mallory 6v pos ground?
Picked this Mallory up the other day and cant find any info on it as far as wiring it into a stock wiring harness. I don't plan on changing from a 6volt pos ground system. But I don't know how to wire this into my stock harness? Wiring is not my specialty, can you shed some light on this for me?

I would say it depends on whether the distributor is a point-type ignition or an electronic ignition. That would be something to check.
If a legacy point and condenser style, all you need is to have a 6-volt coil, because all you need to do is make sure you get spark to the plugs. I think 6 volt positive ground systems do as good as 12-volt negative ground for making sparks. It also looks like it has a standard 6-volt generator hooked up, so maybe it is already made for 6V + ground. |

Its point type. The man I bought it from had never put it into in any thing and didn't know how it was set up.
I would think a modern dist like this would be set up for a 12volt neg ground system out of the box. But I don't know? |

I don't think the condenser is voltage or polarity sensitive. Therefore, all you need is a 6-volt coil and connect it to give optimum spark with negative pulses to the plugs. I think you are in business.

With the coil turned on full time it should draw about 4 amps, so you need a 1 1/2 ohm coil for 6 volts, or 3 ohms (coil and ballast) for 12 volts. |

worst distributer you could use. China garbage that's why they discontinued them. Better off with a stock crab type.

My understanding is that MSD bought out Mallory and is going back into production with the most popular items first. I need a cap and it won't be available until Dec. I don't know who MSD is or where their country of origin will be.
