Rebuilt? Block dosen't apear to have been cleaned. Ragged fan belt. Attention to detail from the rebuilder.

Prospective buyer needs to hear it run before forking out the green!

$1700 is a good price for a stated "rebuilt engine", but I would insist on pulling the head and pan to put eyeballs on the guts of the matter.
Rusts leaks from the head demand it.

There was a song by The Left Bank in the 60’s.

“Just Walk Away Renee”.

I would like to have money back from two or three engines I have bought over the years that were"rebuilt". This one doesn't even have a nice paint job to fool me.

this could be a gem, or a buyer beware. The older I get the more these deals are a buyer beware. The price is not cheap, the money might be better invested in a new rebuilt with a guarantee.

An engine of ANY kind, unless brand new, is a pig in a poke to some extent. You have to check it out as well as you can, then offer what you feel its worth to you. Bearing in mind that you are taking some risk. Price accordingly.

From the looks of the carburetor setup , I doubt seriously that it would even run !!!

I would be concerned with their fear of getting an engine cold. on the topic of how people store engines. I just bought a 65 mustang it had a 351 in it that is locked but probably wouldn't be if they oiled the cylinders. I wasn't planning on using it but it probably would have been good for someone else if they had just oiled the cylinders.

Unless you have done it yourself, or have seen it done, or have a competent person who rebuilds these...think babbit, clearances, etc. It is a gamble. Could be a good one or not so much. How lucky do you feel?
