Default 1929 Sport Coupe Vagabond Green A1217992

Thanks for the nice welcome in another thread, and the advice on my backwards landau bars. I worked this morning getting the carburetor cleaned out, timing set, the headlight switch sorted, and those pesky landau bars installed correctly. I'd like to share some photos I took a few minutes ago. Engine compartment tidy up is next on the agenda.

Best regards, Jeff

In your other thread, I said it's a nice car - it's even better with the landau bars correctly installed. That's one of my pet peeves - seems like quite a few folks install them wrong and it just doesn't look right.

Yes, I agree that the bars look better the right way. Thanks

Jeff,

What a great looking car BUT I have a question for you and maybe the Sport Coupes are different in that respect BUT why do you have the outside locking door handle on the drivers side (left) and not on the passenger side (right) as with other types of "coupes"?

Happy 4th to everyone.

Our 29 Sport Coupe has the locking handle on the right hand side.

It is my understanding, that is the side factory would have installed it. (Right hand side).

I'm sure doin' the top on a Sport Coupe is a "BIG" deal!!!
A Friend, a retired Boat Upholsterer, did a COMPLETE headliner in his, makes it SO QUIET!
I'm glad Vermin is a "plain" old Coupe, they're EASY!

Those are the same colors that I used on my 29 tudor which by the way originally came out of Waynesboro then over near Lexington where I restored it. I like the look of your car!

WHN is correct, the locking door handle should be on the passenger side. Nice catch WHN. There should be an inside slide lock on the drivers side and no key was used on the outside drivers side handle. I don't see any pictures of the driver's side outside handle or the inside slide lock. The car you bought looks very well restored, however, with the few items pointed out by observant Fordbarn members, I am surprised they existed.

Hi Bill,

Thanks for the post. I feel like you thought you needed to come to my rescue! Thanks for that, but actually I appreciate the input. I think the advice was given in the spirit of helping me.

This is my first Model A that is not a 31 roadster. I want to make it as nice and correct as possible, but still fun to drive. So if someone has guidance, I'm all ears.

Speaking of those locks, here is a driver's door photo. I don't see any type of locking mechanism inside on either door. I'm not sure what the inside lock should even look like.

Best regards, Jeff

The sliding lock was on the L/H door. I saw one switched to the R/H door, but the owner had passed & I don't know what is involved in doing that.
For convenience, on Minerva, under the door panel, ran a long black boot string from the slider, over the inside handle & down to the bottom of the door. Ended it with an un-noticeable BLACK KNOT. IF someone wuz CHASIN' me, I could be in, IN a FLASH!

My Dad and I put a L-B top kit on our 30 Sporty. It wasn't difficult but the instructions weren't real good, so it took some head scratchin' to figure out how stuff went together. Course Dad was the sort that could do anything he put his head and hands to.
