Default Start Up and Safety Checklist

My Model A Club is getting ready to start the touring season up north in Wisconsin. Does anyone have a really good safety checklist so we can go over our Model A cars before we tour?

In addition , some of the cars have not had bearings repacked and fluids changed in years due to limited driving. Is there a good rule of thumb on age rather than miles?

Thanks

It really is not a big process to recommission a Model A.

Change ALL oils, engine, transmission, rear end. Complete lube including u joint, throw out bearing, and steering box. Don’t forget the distributor, points cam, generator, and water pump. Front and rear wheel bearings if over ten years. Check oil in shocks. Check fan belt and hoses. If car has had little use, I would think about flushing radiator.

Important! Get under car and check all the cotter pins. Torque rear axel nuts to 100, don’t forget this one.

Enjoy your summer. Now you have me thinking about uncovering our 29.

Interesting. I note that the item in your checklist 30ccpickup says to 'Tighten to frame'. My understanding was that the rear muffler support was designed to be oversize to enclose the exhaust pipe and so allow expansion - Not to be tight and lock it to the frame.

I will change it to "tighten clamp at frame" or maybe "check clamp at frame"

Check the driver for dementia too .

Limited driving and times have changed with texting gap fillers on the road.
