Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
Don and everyone.....yesterday I was looking in my entitled book, "The V8 Affair", and in the back, where the specifications are, listed under Tires,...1935 / 6.00x16 4ply / Station Wagon 6.00x16" 6 ply / optional starting 1936 Oversize: 6.50x16" / for extra road clearance: 6.00x18" both 4 & 6 ply............So.....it appears that there might be more than two??? I've have a friend with a '37 station wagon I'll check with......Thanks to All..........

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
Dan and Raggerty Ride, don't give up yet. I should have been more clear on my posting of the 1935 tire band (outer ring ) It was from a drawing of the 48-1395-B cover assembly for 600-16 tires. In 1935, there was also a cover assembly for 650-16 tires. It had part #48-1395-C. I do not have a copy of that drawing showing dimensions of outer ring. I will put that on my list for my next visit to the Ford Archives.

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
This isn't rocket science here folks . 32 = 5" 33-34 = 5 1/4" . That leaves 5 1/2" & 5 3/4" unspoken for . All four of these sizes are around and with two spoken for already the last two sizes shouldn't be that hard to place . Also remember this part was probably outsourced and other MFRS used them also . I have a beautiful 33 band with stainless BUT it is dark blue and is 5 3/4" wide . Simply put it is NOT FORD .

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
To me 34's look just like 35's only they are narrower . The 33 band is NOT the same as the bead is much narrower . 34 beads are like 35-36

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
I have to make a huge correction and a bigger apology to post #14 above … I miss read my tape measure.....
For my 1935 600-16….band that did not fit had a width of 5 ¼” (not the 6 ¼” I had stated) and the band that does fit and comes over the cover and holds it in place has a width of 5 5/8+” (not the 6 5/8”I had stated). Don Rogers drawing prompted me to recheck ….what I was saying. In my case, I had two sets of covers and rings and just painted the wrong set first... Jim

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
Ditto here as I just followed this lead without bothering to check . I replaced the 6's with 5's in my previous posts . Fact still remains the even , 1/4 , 1/2 & 3/4 part is the decider and as has been noted they don't interchange well .

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
That has always been my experience also on the beads. I have never had a wide bead ring that is narrower than 5 1/2" and the two 5 1/2" ones I have, are what I put on/with my 34 cars. The 5 1/2 ones fit nice on a 5:25/5:50X17 even tho they may be incorrect for a 34 Ford. Definitely 5 3/4 for 35 and 36.

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
To All, I was looking in the book entitled "The V8 Affair", and in the tire specifications, it reads: Starting 1935 - 85 H.P. (except Station Wagon) 6.00x16" 4 plies / Starting 1935 Station wagon 6.00x16" 6 plies / OPTIONAL Starting 1936 OVERSIZE 6.50x16" 6 plies ????????

Re: 1935 Ford spare tire cover info needed
Yes on the 5 1/2" 33-34 band width . And yes they fit well . The skinny 33 one actually fits the worst . It doesn't come down the side of the cover as far . After being a boof on this I actually went wandering with a tape and the only skinny one here is the 33 I checked a while back . The spec posted by Don Rogers seems much more believable now . These things are all over the board . Range seems to be 5 5/16" to 5 13/16" and inconsistent at that . One of the 5 13/16" wide ones is 33 style , dark blue and is a dead on match for a Ford band . I always thought it was off brand due to it's width . Not so sure anymore on thatttun . Anyone have a gennie 36 to check ? If yes and if possible check several spots as these aren't very consistent . Even if in excellent condition . And sorry to the OP as you asked about 35"s . Pretty sure we narrowed it some though . David J
