40A Top
I'm going to be ordering a new top kit for my 28 roadster very soon. I was wondering where some of you have ordered a top like this and if were you pleased with the final results. I want a quality top that will look right and last.

Re: 40A Top
I got mine a few years ago from Baron LeBonny, fits really good with detailed instructions. Very satisfied. Delivery was prompt and the the price, if I recall, wasn't that bad. Still looks new.

Re: 40A Top
I put a top from LB on a 30A deluxe roadster last year and am very happy with the results. There were a few minor issues with the instructions but a phone call to them solved the issues expediently. I ended up buying an air stapler and used the same staples LB uses for their shop installations. Also, the best tool you can buy to install the top is a pair of the pliers shaped like a hammerhead shark. LB sells them for around $28 I think and they are invaluable for stretching the material tight and evenly.

Re: 40A Top
Repro top irons or restored originals? The controversial keywords here is "look right". Is this "look right" to you, --or "look right" to someone comparing them to factory photos? Maybe these two are the same, and if so, you probably won't find that in kit form.

Are you using original top bows or are you going to get reproduction bows with the top already installed? |

Re: 40A Top
Model A rookie here. No help on finding a good top fabric but... My 31 Coupe I bought last Spring has a nice top on it. The texture of it is wierd...it's kind of a "rippley" finish. Were there different finishes or textures or is "rippley" the standard? BTW the irons if that's what they're called are in pretty good shape too except the black paint has come off in several places. I suspect maybe the irons weren't prepped right before they were painted?

Re: 40A Top
Oops...sorry for the confusion...I checked and I guess I have a 45B Std....John S's avatar looks like a coupe but he's researching a roadster top, I get it now! Anyhow, I would still like to know about the paint peeling off my 31 Coupe's fabric trim ring...is it supposed to be painted black...mine is and will need to be repainted because the paint is peeling off. Also there is some paint peeling off the lower engine and the paint underneath is a different shade of green...I guess I'll just try to find a shade that matches...is this engine paint available in a spray can? Obiously I don't know too much at this point being a Model A rookie.

joltesvig: Yes, spray paint available from all the vendor's. You need to get as many catalogs from the vendors as you can, lots of info in them. Also Les Andrews mechanic books, vol 1 anyway. Good luck. Also keep asking questions here. JMO

Re: 40A Top
Thanks for the comments. I was leaning in the direction of using LB and this helped me decide.
