Re: '32 radiator hoses
I have not read all the posts here so maybe someone else has suggested this already. Here's what I did on my '35 when putting in a 59ab. May work for you as well.
Option for Hoses: 1. For anyone putting a '37 to '48 flathead in a '36 or older Ford. Try a pair of Gates # 21253 (Napa NBH 7964) hoses. They are 2" at one end and 1 3/4" at the other with the correct angles. They fit perfectly, and eliminate the need for four short hoses and two tubes. I used '49 to '53 lower hoses, p/n 8BA-8286-A. They have a slight elbow in them that worked perfectly. I think I bought them from Dennis Carpenter but I can't confirm. 2. SS hose kit from Speedy Bill: Found hose #(C)72196 at Pep Boys that worked well for top hose that connects SS tubes to radiator tubes. By cutting hose in half and doing some trimming, the one hose will make connection for both sides. I also had to cut a few inches off the top of the SS tubes. The attached pictures show both options.

21A hoses. Stock original radiator. Stock mounts holding the engine. Has worked fine.

Re: '32 radiator hoses
Every year we used to get new parts catalogs at work and I would take the old ones home. Every body thought I was nuts for taking this trash home. There is stuff in these catalogs that the pimple-faced-kid at Kragan is never going to be able to lookup on his computer. The Gates hose catalog has an illustrated parts section that shows drawing of the hoses sorted by inside diameter. I found the perfect offset lower hoses (see photo) but I can’t find where I put the numbers for it??? Its here somewhere, stuck in a drawer, tool box or flathead book where I was sure I would be able to find it when I needed it.
I measured the original lower hoses and water pump inlets and they measure just slightly larger than 1 ¾ inches. I went to the 1 ¾ inch hose section of the catalog, there are not that many choices that have an offset in such a short distance. I’m guessing you need a hose with about a 1 ¾ inch offset. Out of the 75 illustrations for 1 ¾ hoses these two Gates numbers look the most promising, 20627 and 21216, I’m not sure the 21216 hose would be long enough after you cut it? There is also a 1 ¾ X 2 inch hoses that look promising (21250) it depends on if it is 1 3/4 inches where you need to cut it in the middle. Any auto parts store should be able to convert these numbers to their brand. |

Re: '32 radiator hoses
Hi Andy, The hose in your picture are 39-41 91a style. The 21A 42-48 are shorter and formed different. The 91A hoses fit but you will have to back bend them upward some as the angle to the radiator tank is off and the upper hose has a slight bend. Here are pictures of the hoses in question 91a 39-40 bottom , 21a 42-48 top.

Hey Andy,
If that's a current picture of your 5W, then that means it's back on the road? Hope so! Randy |

Re: '32 radiator hoses
If you raise the front of the engine so the crank lines up with the crank hole in the grill it gets the offset to where you can use a straight hose.

Re: '32 radiator hoses
Ok, I figured out another way of doing this. I found the chromed tubes for $2 at a swap meet yesterday and I got a lower radiator hose for a '59 Caddy, Dayco # 200-70287 and was able to cut it up and use it for the top hoses. I got the 8ba lower hoses and yes they fit.

Re: '32 radiator hoses
Can anyone give me some help with a 59A in a 32 chassis with a new Walker radiator? My cyl heads measure 1 7/8- 2" area and a 1 3/4 hose will not fit over them. The walker measures 1 3/4. Does anyone know if the the 37-38 hoses from macs will work?
The lowers are almost a straight shot so any 1 3/4 with a slight kink will work fine I'm sure. |
