I have never seen one from Ford New Zealand, but here is a picture from a 1939 Ford NZ Booklet, showing a worker wearing a plant badge.

Does anyone have any idea just how big a hobby collecting Ford ID Badges is?

I have been dealing with a fellow who is compiling a book on Ford Motor Company employee badges for all eras. He related to me that there were about a dozen SERIOUS collectors. I have been collecting since the early 70's and have quite a few, concentrating on the Model A era but have since widened my scope from early Model "T" to late V8.
Obviously, many Model A'ers collect ones from their area or where their A was assembled, price and scarcity being the limiting factors. The Model T shell style was still in use when the "A" was introduced, then followed by the "oval top" into the late thirties when, in 1938, the shield style with factory diorama was introduced showing the smoke stacks, river, boat and plane. This "38" style continued till the early 40's. Henry had 100's of plants around the world so there were many 100's of badges produced and many styles are available still.

There was an odd badge on ebay a few weeks back that I thought was suspicious - sold for over $800.00!

RAWSONVILLE BADGE:
Hello to all!
I just joined this board and like it already. I worked for Fords for 40 years as a Die Maker at the Monroe, MI Stamping plant. I have a few Ford badges but I'd like to pick up one for a friend of mine. He is a Vietnam Vet and worked at Fords about 35 years at the Rawsonville Plant. I'd Love to surprise him with a Rawsonville Plant badge. If any of you can help me out I would truly appreciate it.
My thanks to all for reading this post....

I saw this on eBay too - it looks good to me. As for the current prices, I think you are optimistic but not outrageously so.

Good luck

I have a question Mark.....is this badge incorrectly identified? Is it a Model T badge or Model A? I'd appreciate if you could give me the proper name for it. Thanks much.

Meant to look like the earlier brass radiator T - I think it was used into the mid 1920's when the later T radiator shape was used - but I'm no expert on these.

Yes - these made so much of a stir when they came out that "Antique Week" ran an article on them exposing them as fraudulent items - the rest of the article is very helpful as it shows several original Ford employee badges as reference. I think I may still have it folded up in a book at home, if I can locate that article I will post it.

There is also a pile of "Pilot wings" with the ford center badge, but I'm pretty sure that everyone knows those are purely fantasy items already..

Even Henry wore a badge! Ford identification badges began to appear around 1912 and changed in design several times over the years. Henry Ford's badge shown here was standard during World War II for all employees, who were also issued a laminated ID card with a facsimile signature of Harry Bennett. These picture badges were discontinued in November, 1945.

I realize this is not an employee badge, but an award pin probably for years of service. Can anyone provide information as to what it was awarded for, and the time frame when it was awarded such as the 50s, 60s, 70s etc. I found it at Iola in 2002 and it is the only one I have seen. It is about the size of a dime, is 10K gold, and has a diamond inserted.

Thanks

They certainly did have badges in New Zealand. The Ford Motor Co Worldwide Employee Badges, ID Cards, Passes & Permits book shows them and many other from foreign countries. The book can be purchased on the Early Ford V-8 Foundation Museum site: fordv8foundation.org - FORD STORE page
