Michael, your question about the front oil gally plug has been the same question I've had since I've owned and worked on these early Flathead engines....starting in the late 50's. Basically what I was told...the extended diameter on that threaded plug, was to restrict the flow of oil coming through that galley, and going into the timing gear area.
