Splash and gravity oil system.The rods have dipper that splash through a puddle of oil each time the crank turns so prelube for them isn't necessary.As mentioned above,pouring 2 quarts of oil down the distributor holes prelube the gravity side of the system,the valve chamber is a lake,and pipes feed off it to lube the camshaft and main bearings.The model a oil pumps job is to lift oil from the pan to the valve chamber,it trickles down the pipes from there..easily the most over engineered item on the car..
