The term teapot is vague. Is it a Holley 1901 2V carb or a 4000 4V carb? I call them the towering inferno. I know it's not an 885 if you can see down into a venturi. Some kits for these are better than others. It pays to get a good one.

You have to have spark, air, fuel, and some compression doesn't hurt. If it has a properly timed spark at the plugs and fuel spray from the accelerator pump then it should fire. If it has an internal leak somewhere then it will flood and make the mixture overly rich as well as crud up the spark plugs.
