The Geelong to Melbourne road was always considered to be the best road in the country to test a fast car.
The Ford engineers in the 70's would drive their GT HO Phase 3 (Australian) Falcon's at about 140mph on this road, I gather, and cover the distance in about 20 minutes. The police knew who they were, and would simply wave to them.
