I painted base/clear once to replace the bed on my wife’s pickup. As I remember It did change the paint color a shade or two, I wouldn’t say darker, but different.
That was the only time I’ve ever done the clear coat. Like Deuce Roadster I prefer to use single stage paint. I painted my first truck in the early 80’s before I had even heard of base clear.
