Here's a converted tubular shaft. The original end is perfectly concentric with the shaft from the factory, so when bored out for the coupler on a long bed lathe, it all lines up. The original 6 spline coupler is also concentric, so this works out great. The weld is behind the contact area with the pinion, so there's no distortion. Make sure to line up the pin hole.
