There is a way to read the caster w/o alignment gauges.
All you need is a carpenters square and a angle finder of this type. The car needs to be on a level surface.
Using a protractor, turn the front wheels to 20 deg, both RT and LF and mark those locations with chalk.
With the wheels pointing straight, put the square on the sidewalls of the tire, with the angle finder attached. Take that reading. We will call it 0. turn the wheel, 20 deg and do the same thing, we'll call that one 4 deg. Turn to 20 deg, the other way and do the same, if it is also 4 deg, you have 8 deg of caster.
Remember, that if you have any camber reading at straight ahead, you have to add or subtract it from you 20 deg readings.
So, the way it works, is your camber readings at 20 deg, LF & RT, added together, is your caster angle, minus your 0 deg camber setting.
