Default Re: The Ugly Green Thing ('35 Panel Delivery)

I have been delinquent in doing anything on the panel for sometime until last month. I managed to put new head gaskets in and now have the engine in the frame and much is hooked up. While waiting for some parts I ordered I tore my starter switch apart as it was frozen with Rust. I know new ones are available but I enjoy some tasks just for the challenge and satisfaction.
Drilling the plunger to get things apart, I ground it off, drilled it and made a new end post for it. I stretched an extension spring to make a new compression spring. It is a bit stiffer but will work. The cardboard insulation was shot so I used some hard rubber. All the copper parts were still good. The last photo shows how I compressed the spring for assembly and re-riveting. The 4 corner tabs were heated to relieve stress and then bent over. Finally I painted it with silver Rust-Oleum and let the sun bake it at 80 degrees or so.
It kept me out of mischief for 4 days and now the other parts are here.
I hope to have further progress to report soon.
