Thanks for that Brian. I thought it a bit strange when everything was working the way it was. There is a fair bit of wear on both ends of the rod not sure if it is enough to create a problem with the hand prime pump I'm setting up for a spare. It seems to have too much free play before the lever moves the diaphragm ?.
Anyway I'll pay a visit to Lawrie (ex NZ) and pick his brain.
