I know the Northern Illinois Regional Group #8 is very active and has recently hosted a National Meet in Springfield. Rockford regional group #105, Knoxville regional group #113 and Pekin regional group #51 are all close to you. You're pretty lucky to have that many so close. The National Club President, Ken Bounds, is a member of the Northern Illinois group in Arlington Heights. I have meet Ken at a few National Meets. Very nice man.
I'm from Southern Illinois, 50 miles east of St. Louis. Nashville, Illinois is where I live. I drive an hour and a half to attend meetings in Chesterfield, Missouri.
You could email each club and ask them questions about how active they are and what kinds of tours and activities they host.
