If the outer bearing fails you have a potential to loose steering no mater how the inner is held on? I guess I do not understand how having the inner bearing staked to the spindle (many cars have had that done) affects the preload and will cause loss of steering if outer bearing fails. ? I would agree that a better spindle would be best course of action in any case.
