Starting the repairs afresh with a clear mind is a lot better than trying to do repairs while thinking about what happened, generally, if your mind is not fully on the job, another accident can follow. Nope. The best thing would be to stop and say "what could possible go wrong with sawhorses?" and a milk crate and then using the proper support. Plenty can go wrong even when doing it right. This was just dumb. Glad you weren't hurt in the process.
