I think part of this is because Fastenal is using more straight trucks now, and they do not have the extra room now. Also, they still outsource their freight transportation to the more remote areas of their stores.
FWIW, I have been shipping via Fastenal for several years now, and the protocol has always been that corporate must be contacted directly to arrange LTL shipping.
