Little Note: Always checkout the block first - run a clean-out tap through the exhaust port holes/threads and make sure everything looks good. I always use Grade 8 bolts and make sure that they thread in as deep as possible (use as much thread as you can).
I've seen some blocks where somebody heli-coiled the front two exhaust holes - thinking they were stripped out - not realizing they're 7/16. I would be a bit hesitant to mount my engine and trans (as shown above) in that situation. I'd probably do just the engine, but not both.
One thing that is really nice about the side-mount stand is that you can rotate the engine when you're working on the flywheel/clutch area of the front of the motor. I always at least test-fit my transmission, check the throughout bearing and make sure everything fits before I take everything off the stand.
