It's actually Bucks, not Hucks, Assises, short for Buckinghamshire. I used to live not far from Colnbrook, a fine old village which once had several coaching inns, being at the right point west of London for a change of horses. Now right under the flightpath of London Heathrow airport, and the main A4 road to the West now bypasses it.


Not the first death in the UK, that was Bridget Driscoll in 1896. In her case, the driver said his car was not capable of more than 4mph, but a witness said he had tuned it up to do 8mph. The coroner hoped said he hoped "such a thing would never happen again." The Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents estimate 550,000 people had been killed on UK roads by 2010.
