A person can learn a lot from motors like that. For one, you learn that Mercury Heads will fit any 8BA family block since they are all the same. Two, you learn that the truck cast iron half bell also fits all the family blocks. Lastly, you find out that valves and rotating components will fit just about any of the different families of Ford flathead V8 engines in the 221 or 239 category. So now you just need to find out if it has the Mercury 4-inch crank or the ford 3 3/4-inch crank. They all use the same rods.

Have you pulled a valve assembly out? Does is have a two piece guide? Rotator valves were used in the mid 1951 and later engines and they have a different appearance than the straight tipped valves. This is why I ask.

Ford didn't put a lot of numbers on their engine blocks. There may be a date code on the intake deck.
